Welcome to Alan Turing Exhibition - Legacy for Computing and Humanity

Come and meet the biography of this British mathematician who decisively influenced the course of World War 2.
Find out how the Internet, robotics and science fiction are connected with the work of Alan Turing.

In the lobby, visitor will see a video biographic about Alan Turing life and know the contents of the exhibition.

Area 1: The lobby

In the lobby you can watch a video biography of Alan Turing and know the contents available in all areas. There will also be an interactive table with which the visitor can interact with an augmented reality experience.

In the area of the mezzanine, visitors will learn about the context in which the importance of Turing arise

Area 2: Enigma - Turing Test - Cryptography

Know and understand the Enigma machine as Turing influenced the Allied victory against Germany. Turing also contributed to the development of artificial intelligence. In this sense, the visitor will participate in the Turing test and find out if the other side of the computer there is only one person or a machine. Understand the relationship between encryption and the internet.

Area 3: Mathematics - Computability - Turing Machine

Interior decoration set in Bletchley Park, the visitor will see the operation of the Turing machine and understand how mathematics contributed to computing, and meet other contemporary thinkers to Turing, like John von Neumann, among others, who continued his research.

Area 4: Science Fiction - Ethics and Robotics

In this area the public can learn about how science fiction has influenced the advancement of science, including in fields such as philosophy. You will be confronted with ethical issues concerning the development of machines and inteligantes may find a little of what has come true and what is being produced in the world of robotics, including here at UFRGS.

Area 5: Artificial Intelligence Strong x Weak

Do the machines actually despertarãao to consciousness? What would Awareness? What is a brain? The awakening of the Self in the machines is a matter of time, or is it something that will never be achieved? This area will raise these issues to the public that these issues are still open. Princiapis will face the two philosophies that address this issue, but the conclusion is up to the visitor.

Area 6: The Multimrdia room

This area will be used for the projection of videos related to the work of Alan Turing and visitors can also participate by voting in Video Contests, part of the activities that comprise the Alan Turing Year Brazil 2012.

Dear teachers, the material available for download in the areas 1 to 5 is free to use and has been prepared by researchers at UFRGS in order to create opportunities for students resource for their school activities. However, it is important to preserve the references of the authors of the texts produced. Good job!

Distribution of content and route of exhibition

Mediators of the Museum will be asked to lead the visitors for an overview of the contents of the exhibition hall on the first floor (Area 1)then contact the chronological context that surrounds The Alan Turing biography with computing and with our time in the mezzanine (Area 2). The contents of this Area involve the Enigma machine, the second world war, the Turing test, encryption, and Internet.

Following the itinerary of the exhibition, visitors first pass through the corridor (Area 3), entrando em contato com o conteúdo que envolve a Máquina de Turing e suas aplicaçoes na matemática e na computabilidade.

The background Area (Area 4) the exhibition is reserved for matters Robotics - Ethics and Science Fiction.

In the seccond row (Area 5) visitors will be led to a philosophical reflection on the future paths of development of Artificial Intelligence.

In the multimedia room Area (Area 6) will be presented biographical videos about Alan Turing and his time: World War 2, evolution of computers, evolution of Artificial Intelligence, among others. In this Area, the visitors can also interact with multimedia kiosks, responding to polls on trends in Artificial Intelligence, and vote for the best videos produced for the video contest..
