Alan Turing Brasil 2012 - 01
Considered one of the fathers of Computer Science, the British scientist, was among the first to glimpse the possibility that machines could become intelligent and created a theoretical mathematical model for the universal computer, before the first such facility in fact exist. The invention is known as the Turing machine and was the basis for modern computing. In addition to the academic contribution, Alan Turing had a strong contribution to the Second World War. Worked in a fundamental way for the Allies could interpret the encrypted messages of the Enigma machines, which the Nazis used to communicate. In commemoration of the centenary of his birth, the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul, cooperate to public promotion of Computer Science and the memory of one of his most notable researchers from a number of activities planned to start the day June 23, 2012:
Activities related to the Year 2012 at the Museum of Turing UFRGS seek to capture the attention of young people using science fiction as an interface between the boundaries between reality scientific literature and cinema. The great impulse that led to World War II in various areas of knowledge, at a cost irreparable, can also be clearly followed in the evolution of computing. This scenario of global conflict is portrayed in a context to visitors about the demands of war that led to the construction of the first computers. Brazilian and foreign researchers will participate in Cycle of Lectures,
Alan Turing Brasil 2012 - 02
to enable discussions in academia on current issues of Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence, both philosophical issues and applied research.
Two activities, in the form of tender, will get the attention of young people for higher education-related areas of computing. One will be geared toward students from elementary and high school, a video competition. Another method is aimed at students of higher education, free for students of basic education, and will focus for encryption, or encrypted code breaking.
All activities will somehow use the internet. From the use of Internet activities, will be released the new IPv6 communication protocol, which will replace the current protocol, called IPv4.
ACTIVITIES - EXHIBITION IN THE MUSEUM OF UFRGS
The exhibition will, as the main space, the entire floor area of 350m2 UFRGS Museum, which covers the first floor, mezzanine and multimedia room in the center of the city of Porto Alegre. The exposure period will be between 2 July 2012 to 31 October 2012. In order to submit videos, lectures and conferences will also include the exhibition space of the hall of the Rectory of Acts.
Alan Turing Brasil 2012 - 03
Visitors will have access to multimedia kiosks, interactive activities, experiments, lectures, films, simulations and interactive activities like chatterbots, which are computer programs that simulate a human being to talk with people via a computer terminal.
The show will highlight the contribution of Alan Turing, both for computing and for humanity, through the work of decoding the Enigma machine and through panels, mobiles, video projections, a series of talks with the presence of national and international personalities, complementary activities such as film series with biographical films, etc.. The special attraction is a replica of the Enigma code used to generate the communication of the German forces during the Second World War.
The visitor will be invited to meet the great contribution of Turing, who has 50 years proved to be a pioneer in thinking about what might or might not be computable. Predicting even the machines could become intelligent.
CYCLE OF LECTURES
Brazilian personalities and British and American universities will participate in the lecture series will address issues related to the work of Turing and
Alan Turing Brasil 2012 - 04
the philosophical questions confronting the Weak and Strong Artificial Intelligence, under the coordination of Professor Marcelo Walter (INF-UFRGS). The first one will be issued by the director of the Institute, Louis Lamb, who will provide an overview of the history of computing from the main winners of the Turing Award.
Among the invited speakers are:
• S. Barry Cooper, Department of Pure Mathematics, University of Leeds, Leeds, U.K.
• Sue Black, Honorary Senior Research Associate, Dept. of Computer Science, University College London, London, U.K.
• Luís da Cunha Lamb, Instituto de Informática, UFRGS, Porto Alegre, RS

CODE BREAKER CONTESTThe university competition on encryption will be dedicated to higher education students, but without restricting the participation of students of basic education. Participants should read encrypted messages and get the original message or the key. This contest is organized by Professor Fernando Weber, currently considered the leading authority on cryptography in Rio Grande do Sul The standard of competition should follow the patterns of the following competitions:
• http://www.mysterytwisterc3.org/index.php
The challenges may occur at various levels. The solution may be the entire original text, the key word or a secret code hidden within the given plaintext. By breaking the code, the student will get the solution. If the student feels that he found the right solution, you should enter the site, login and submit it. The first code breakers of success of each challenge will focus on competition in the "Hall of Fame", separately for each challenge.

SHORT VIDEO CONTESTEncourage young people to the use of audiovisual tools, so they can optimize their communication, speech and vocational training, obtain a better income and participate in social inclusion. Videos must have as background the possible contributions of science and technology for improvements in society.
To perform such activity will have the UFRGS partnership between FIRST Brazil, nonprofit institution, which already has experience and competence in performing these activities. This activity has the support of the Law Rouanet (Project approved by Order 74, June 21, 2011).
Specific Objectives
I. Perform competition / contest audiovisual works of young people who have not joined the higher education and have a maximum age of 18.
II. Insert audiovisual tools in everyday school life.
III. Motivating young people to the training of the labor market and improve the income expectations.
Alan Turing Brasil 2012 - 07
IV. Promote cultural and artistic event for promoting audiovisual with the exhibition of the best work in categories such as: stop motion, photography, 2D and 3D modeling, 2D and 3D animation, website / blog and sound.V. Create a forum for discussions on the Internet, in order to facilitate access to information and exchange of experiences between persons subject to various social and economic realities in Brazil.
VI. Create website with educational material tutorial aimed at training of audiovisual tools.
Expected Results
I. Conduct cultural event with the participation of at least fifty works previously selected from among at least five hundred papers approved by trustees.
II. Create website with public access to the work approved by trustees.
III. Create website with tutorial material for education of the categories covered.
Alan Turing Brasil 2012 - 08
IV. Conduct workshops, lectures and workshops attendance in partnership with educational institutions in the country.V. Manufacture and distribute to schools CD / DVD with selected papers and tutorial material.
Accessibility - The accessibility will be promoted through the following measures:
I. Visually impaired: videos will be selected audio description.
II. Hearing impaired: selected videos will be subtitled.
DEMOCRATIZATION
Access to material will be published on the website to be created. All material should be accepted prior assignment of copyright. Will be made for distribution in schools, copies of DVD / CD with the best works, along with educational material tutorial. The content of the media described above will be posted on website http://www.dominiopublico.gov.br.
