School of Administration

Infrastructure

The School of Administration provides 24-hour security, comfortable and air-conditioned classrooms, modern multimedia equipment of projection and micro-computing for expositive and interactive classes, and direct access to the Internet. Additionally, students have a computer lab at their disposal, provided with Microsoft software and 24-hour Internet access. The library has over 12,000 volumes, 99 specialized periodicals, and 4 CD-ROM databases, including ProQuest. The School also has two publications of its own: the REAd – e-Management Journal (electronic publication, available at www.read.adm.ufrgs.br) and the Documents for Study Series (electronic publication, available at www.ppga.ufrgs.br)

CEAD

The CEAD – Executive Development Center, is an division of the School of Administration of UFRGS, its principal goal being to provide specialization programs and MBAs – the latter in partnership with the Bank of Brazil – to the community. These programs are especially aimed at executives in search of self-improvement in the entrepreneurial area.

The management school’s undergraduate program is divided into:

Graduate Program The Graduate Program in Management – PPGA

– established in 1972, stands as one of the most important graduate programs in Brazil. Since 1987 PPGA has been receiving the maximum grades attributed to schools of administration in Brazil from CAPES (the governmental agency in charge of funding Brazilian graduate programs.) PPGA was appointed by CAPES as one of the three best management graduate programs in the country. Focused on the dissemination of advanced methods of management, PPGA aims to provide in-depth studies in the field of Management, and training for high-level personnel in educational and research activities, as well as for managerial duties within organizations.

Research

The Management School at UFRGS offers an intensive and rich research environment comprising of basic, as well as applied, investigations conducted in partnership with companies. Academic research projects are carried out with the cooperation of several research groups in the School, many of them benefiting from grants received from funding agencies, such as CAPES, CNPq, FINEP, FAPERGS, etc.
