Angela Wyse was elected for The World Academy of Sciences

The Professor of the Department of Biochemistry of the Institute of Basic Health Sciences was elected full member of The World Academy of Sciences (TWAS) for the advancement of science in developing countries. The election recognizes her contribution to science and to its promotion in the developing world.
Angela Wyse is vice-coordinator of the Graduate Program in Biochemistry and a full member of the Brazilian Academy of Sciences. She works in the fields of Biochemistry and Neuroscience, with emphasis on neuroprotection and hereditary neurometabolic diseases.

For more than 5 years, she has been conducting a project to disseminate science, with a focus on neuroscience and interdisciplinarity, for children of Public Schools of Porto Alegre, in order to encourage their interest in education, science and health. She was awarded a CAPES-ELSEVIER prize, which recognizes researchers for their contribution to the development of science in Brazil. Recently, she was awarded a “Prêmio Pesquisador Gaúcho” - FAPERGS, in the field of Biological Sciences.

In total, 46 new members were elected to TWAS. The inauguration ceremony will take place at the next academy meeting, scheduled for 2020.
