  2. IGC/MEC 2012

    UFRGS was rated as the best university in Brazil according to MEC (Ministry of Education) rankings. The Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul has been indicated as the best of 2000 Brazilian universities among the public and private institutions evaluated in the general courses index (igc). The results refer to 2011. The General Index of the University programs has reached a score of 4.28, which is the highest among all the Brazilian universities.
  3. The Webometrics Ranking of World Universities

    is an initiative of the Cybermetrics Lab, a research group belonging to the Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas (CSIC), the largest public research body in Spain. Using quantitative methods, the Cybermetrics Lab has designed and applied indicators that allow measurement of scientific activity on the Web. The ranking is not only focused on research results but also in other indicators which may better reflect the global quality of the scholar and research institutions worldwide. According to the Webometrics Ranking Web of World Universities, UFRGS figures as number 71 in the world rank.

  4. Academic Ranking of World Universities - 2011

    Although the initial purpose of ARWU was to find the global standing of top Chinese universities, it has attracted a great deal of attention from universities, governments and public media worldwide. One of the factors for the significant influence of ARWU is that its methodology is globally sound and transparent. The ARWU and its content have been widely cited and employed as a starting point for identifying national strengths and weaknesses as well as facilitating reform and setting new initiatives.
    Starting from 2009, the ARWU has been published by Shanghai Ranking Consultancy, a fully independent organization. Besides ARWU, the Consultancy is going to provide a variety of global comparison and in-depth analysis on research universities, supporting relevant decision making by national governments and universities in a global context.

    The aim of this Ranking is to support Open Access initiatives and therefore the free access to scientific publications in an electronic form and to other academic material.
