During
the last years Rafael Johann it comes developing
the techniques
of the Pinhole Photography of systematic and
gradual form, getting with this
some progress, with the incursion the different
periods of training of
this photographic technique, in the search
of new processes of attainment
of the image and laboratoriais processings.
Together to this, it also is
making experimentations with the construction
of new types and
forms of pinhole cameras.
The use of differentiated
pinhole cameras, with multiple orifices, as
if they were multiple lenses,
what it is providing to it to reach photographic
images endowed
with much plastic wealth and peculiar compositions
of scenes.
As final work of its graduation in Plastic
Arts, emphasis in Photography,
carried through in the Institute of Arts of
the UFRGS, Rafael Johann
composed the essay in pinhole photography
, called of
" Dream On", that he is corporate
for beautiful photographic
images, that present luminous scenes with
high density of light and colors.
This work better is described in the text
of the Project " Dream On",
of which we take off some stretches that we
place below:
"...
the first camera that constructed was a can
with three orifices - the
film goes rolled up in a cylinder in the center
of the can thus the
projected image of each orifice reaches the
sensible surface in
a point of this cylinder. This camera allows
me to get, in a film piece,
a composed image for three images made use
side by side horizontally.
It had an intention to relate the horizontalidade
and the panoramic
sights of that landscape with the organization
of the final image.
Also to the side of this, this camera allows
me to associate
images of different sights or then to create
repetitions
of elements of the landscape."
With
photographs of the camera of three orifices,
I could inside
compose my work of one same poetical line
and plastic. They
consist of images that "appear"
of a more precarious way: its edges
are darkened - known effect as vignette its
limits are
anamorfic - had to the high degree of distortion
in the limits
of the projection - and the division between
the three images
that compose the photograph she is inexact
- for times the
images if they overlap, in others, are separate.
It has images
that present effect of the direct incidence
of the
light - backlighting - and that they evidence
the alternative captation
of the images: the light do sun happening
directly on the puncture forms
"spots", disformes flashes that
emanate rays, wires of light, and mark
all the region displayed with specters da
decomposed light nas its
colors basic green, blue and red. To mine
to see, such photographs
contribute for the intended fantastic aspect
with the assay, in the
same measure where they assume the noise,
the spot and
perhaps as constituent elements of the image
and the language."
"...
I believe that one of the great contributions
that the technique of
the pinhole photography can in offering them,
in times of digital
revolutions and formation of new paradigms
in the photographic art,
is exactly a new boarding of the photographic
process and the
reception. When working with the camera in
its more rudimentary
form and when using photographic materials
of form not-conventional,
the artist has the chance to rethink all the
language and the
conventional process at the same time where
she reorganizes the
elements of this language creating images
that also invite the
observer to adopt a new to look at on the
photography."
