EXPERIMENTAL GROUP OF PHOTOGRAPHY
- GEF
The Experimental
Photography Group is an extracurricular activity
offered by the Photography Center of UFRGS, with
the intention of developing the creativity and graphic-visual
criticism, of graduation students and postgraduate
students from several areas of the Federal University
of Rio Grande do Sul. These activities are developed
through theoretical classes, practical workshops
and seminars, having as the main discussion center
photography as an individual's interface with their
surrounding universes. It is worth stressing out
that it is an experimental group because it involves,
along with its work methodologies, the application
of theories and techniques in photography, accompanied
by subjective exercises in form, subject, color,
light and shadow that are the forming agents and/or
the actors of our universes (surrounding or not),
in which we momentarily are inserted.
All the GEF activities
are based on the following hypothesis :
PHOTOGRAPHY, AS A TECHNIQUE,
CAN BE DEFINED AS GRAPHICALLY EXPOSED IMAGES OCURRING
DUE TO THE ACTION OF A CERTAIN RADIATION OR FREQUENCY,
OF THE SPECTRA THAT MAKE UP THE ELECTROMAGNETIC
WAVES ON BIOLOGICAL, PHYSICAL, CHEMICAL OR TECHNOLOGICALLY
PREPARED MATERIALS OR ELEMENTS, NATURALLY SENSITIVE
OR MADE SENSITIVE PREVIOUSLY. THOSE ACTIONS AND
REACTIONS CAN HAPPEN IN AN OCCASIONAL WAY OR BE
INDUCED TO HAPPEN (BITT-MONTEIRO, 1999).
