Laboratory of Toxic Proteins ⁄ Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS)
Coordinated by Celia R. Carlini, the Laprotox - Laboratory of Toxic Proteins belongs to the Department of Biophysics and to the Center of Biotechnology, at the Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul, city of Porto Alegre, Brazil.
The Laprotox Team includes professors, post-doctoral fellows, graduate students at the Ph.D. and M.Sc. levels, as well as under-graduated students. Collaborators from other Brazilian universities and abroad join the Laprotox team to study toxic proteins at the physicochemical and biological levels.
From 2013 on, Celia Carlini joined the Brain Institute (Instituto do Cérebro-InsCer) of the Pontificia Universidade Católica do Rio Grande do Sul (PUCRS), where she leads the Laboratory of Neurotoxins (LaNeurotox). Part of the Laprotox team joined the LaNeurotox to carry out studies on the effects of urease and derived peptides on nervous cells of insects and mammals.
