
The Post-Graduation Program of Social Anthropology of the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul develops teaching, research and extension activities looking to contribute to the development of Anthropology in Brazil.
The courses developed by the Program – Master’s and Doctorate – aim at training qualified professionals to perform research and college level teaching activities.

The PPGAS-UFRGS is structured in several Research Centers which count on the participation of Master's, Doctorate and Undergraduate professors as well as of visiting researchers and former students.
The program has a Social Anthropology Lab which articulates the many ongoing researches in the several centers and which conducts institutional research and extension projects. It carries out intense exchanges with other post-graduation centers both in Brazil and abroad, also having had teachers visit from several other countries. The Program’s magazine – Horizontes Antropológicos [Anthropological Horizons] – is classified by the Qualis Capes system as A1.
