1Horizontes Antropológicos will consider unpublished manuscripts in the form of articles, book reviews, and diverse other materials such as interviews, in Portuguese, Spanish, French, and English.

2 The articles should be written in double-spaced text and contain up to ten thousand words, including bibliographical references and notes.

2.1 The articles should include an abstract in single-space text, in the same idiom as the original paper, of at most 150 words together with a list of four keywords. In the case of Spanish, Portuguese and French articles, an abstract, title and four key words in English will also be required.

3 Book reviews on recent publications should be no more than 1,300 words. They should contain complete reference of the books in question, including author(s), title and sub-title, place (city), publisher, year of issue and total number of pages.

3.1 Direct or indirect citations made in a review must be complemented only with the corresponding pages; citation of other any other written works should follow the rules mentioned in 4.1.

4 In the articles and book reviews the notes should appear at the bottom of the page (footnotes). Bibliographical references should appear in the end of the text and ordered alphabetically.

4.1 Direct citations should appear in the main body of the text in the following manner: author’s last name, year of publication, page indication. In the indirect citations the page indication is optional, according to the following models:

According to Lancaster (1992, p. 173): “machismo, in whatever guise, is not simply a matter of ideology.”

4.2 Direct citations of more than three lines should be indented, in small print, without quotation marks, in single-spaced text; transcriptions of interviews should follow the same format, as in the following example:

One view stresses the “vertical” element in faith, the relationship to God; and it selects certain persons, institutions, objects which in a privileged way are held to give access to the divine clearly and unmistakably. [...] The other view of the sacred refuses to localize it in the people, places and things. (Hebblethwaite, 1975, p. 15).

4.3 Bibliographical references at the end of the text should follow the following guidelines:

4.4 In the main body of the text, authors should follow a consistent typographical style; use capital letters only when absolutely necessary:

a) italics: should be used for foreign words, titles (books, meetings, etc.) and emphasis;

b) double quotes: should be used in direct references with less than 3 lines, citations of individual words; words which have an unusual connotation, and those which should receive particular emphasis;

c) bold and subscript formats should be avoided.

5 The authors of articles and book reviews should be identified with reference to institutional affiliation and address for contact and e-mail.

6 The Editorial Committee requests the articles and book reviews in three printed copies together with the text on disk in a computer language which is compatible with Windows in Rich Text (.rtf) ou Word (.doc).

7 Any illustrations that are a part of the article (including diagrams and graphics) must be sent separately, numbered as they will appear, in TIFF format (without compression) and at 300dpi resolution in the final size intended for publishing. Maximum width: 4.72 inches (12 cm); maximum height: 6.3 inches (16 cm) – or 1417 by 1890 pixels.

8 The publication of articles will be decided on the approval of the Executive Editorial Committee, and based on the opinions of external referees.

9 Authors of articles and book reviews will receive two copies of the journal in which their work is published.

10 In order to motivate collaborators, Horizontes Antropológicos will publish, on the back cover of each issue, the theme of three forthcoming volumes together with the name of the proposed editor(s). The journal welcomes suggestions.
