Resumo: Um dos objetivos deste trabalho foi aprofundar as pesquisas no campo da antropologia urbana, integrando à sua metodologia os instrumentos da antropologia visual, ou simplesmente enriquecer o estudo do papel dos espaços públicos na sociabilidade dos aposentados parisienses e cariocas através da análise de outra fonte de dados: a imagem em movimento. Ao adotar esta metodologia tínhamos como propósito fundamental apresentar os copiões aos personagens franceses e realizar, em sua companhia, o exame das imagens registradas de suas atividades, bem como aquelas que mostravam as atividades dos personagens brasileiros. O objetivo era recolocá-los em face de uma outra realidade: o espelho deste outro, estrangeiro, remetia-os à sua própria identidade, a realidade brasileira permitia a reflexão do seu cotidiano, levando-os a falar deles mesmos e de suas histórias de vida. Não se tratava de um simples retorno das imagens, mas de uma tentativa de melhor compreender aquilo que definia seu pertencimento a um grupo de idade tanto quanto a um espaço territorial, dado que estes pertencimentos fazem parte da reflexão cotidiana das pessoas idosas.

Abstract: The aim of this article is to further reflection on the field of urban anthropology, integrating the tools of the visual anthropology into its methodology, or simply to enrich the study of the roll public areas play in the sociability of retired people in Paris and Rio de Janeiro through the analysis of another source of data: the moving image. In adopting this methodology, our main procedure was to present the rushes to French people and to examine with them their recorded activities, as well as those showing the activities of the Brasilian people. The objective was to place them face to face with a different reality, so that, seeing themselves in the mirror of these foreigners, they would think about their own identity. The Brazilian way of life would prod them to think over their day to day existence, so they would speak more about themselves and their life stories. It wasn’t a mere feedback of images, rather it was an attempt to better understand what would characterize their sense of belonging to an age group as well as a territory since these sense of belonging is part of the daily thoughts of aged people.
