About our program

The Graduate Program in Nursing Science of the UFRGS offers Academic Master’s and Doctoral level courses. The Academic Master’s program began in 1998, and the Doctoral program received its first students in 2006.

Program objectives

·         To offer a stimulating environment to help students build a solid foundation of knowledge in Nursing & Health Sciences;

·         To promote the development of a scientific method; and

·         To expand and share expert knowledge in Nursing & Health Sciences.

Doctoral Program Objectives

·         To train highly-skilled practitioners for professor positions in Nursing & Health Sciences.

·         To expand knowledge and develop innovative technologies in Nursing & Health Sciences in order to answer social needs and improve healthcare systems.

Doctoral Profile

At the end of the program, the doctoral students will be highly-qualified practitioners with training and experience in research, and familiar with theoretical and methodological concepts in both specialties of Policies and Clinical Practices and Care in Nursing & Health Sciences. They will have the skills to lead projects of knowledge development of regional, national, and international importance, and to make decisions related to higher-education human resources issues. Master’s Program Objectives

·         To train qualified Master’s students for teaching assistant and research group positions in Nursing & Health Sciences.

·         To train Master’s students who be qualified to take part in think-tanks to assist in and develop research, teaching and work in Nursing Science.

Master’s Profile

At the end of the program, the Master’s students will have experience and training in research. They will be proficient in theoretical and methodological approaches in the specializations of either Healthcare and Nursing or Policies and Clinical Practice in Nursing and Health Sciences. They will have the skills to lead projects of knowledge development of regional, national, and international relevance, and to make decisions related to higher-education human resources issues.
