PRESENTATION

The Sociology Graduate Program (PPGS) has been dedicated to Sociology research and teaching since 1973.  Its activities are focused on issues related to agriculture, cities, science, education, social policy, work, violence, social movements, and research theory and methodology.

The Program has agreements with several national and foreign academic institutions, and its faculty is part of international research networks.

Its graduates develop teaching activities and research in higher education institutions, government agencies, and private enterprise, both in Brazil and abroad.

The PPGS is among the five best Sociology graduate programs in the country, receiving a score of 6 by the CAPES (Higher Education Personnel Improvement Office) evaluation. According to this national evaluation, the maximum score is 7. In the field of Sociology, 38 programs were evaluated; 33 received a score of less than 6. A score of 6 and 7 are given to courses with a performance and rating equivalent to the most important international teaching and research centers.

With the defense of the theses and dissertations that were held during the month of May 2011, the PPGS has produced 86 doctorate degrees and 244 master’s degrees. See the full list on the Production menu – Theses and Dissertations
