Ethiopia hails progress in ties with China

The Ethiopian government has hailed the Ethiopia-China comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership as the two countries embark on a series of activities to mark the 50th anniversary since the establishment of diplomatic relations. “The diplomatic relations between Ethiopia and China have been growing ever since the two countries established official diplomatic ties back in the 1970s,” the Ethiopian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement issued over the weekend. It added that the Ethiopia-China ties have over the years strengthened across various sectors, mainly following the decision among the two countries’ governments to elevate bilateral ties to a comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership back in 2017.

Sudan launches its first ever satellite in partnership with China

Khartoum says the satellite, which was launched by China, will conduct research for military as well civilian purposes. Sudan’s first-ever satellite to carry out research in military, economic and space technology has been launched by China, the African country’s governing council said. General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, head of Sudan’s sovereign council, announced on Tuesday the launch of the satellite at a meeting of his top security officials held in the capital, Khartoum.

Angola secures $2 billion in infrastructure financing from China


Angola has secured $2 billion in Chinese financing from the China Development Bank for infrastructure projects on President João Lourenço’s first visit to Beijing. Angola, Africa’s second largest oil producer, is in the process of trying to diversify its economy since a fall in the price of crude in 2014 plunged it into recession. Inflation is running at more than 20 percent per year and at least one in five of workers are jobless.
