Sudan launches its first ever satellite in partnership with China

Khartoum says the satellite, which was launched by China, will conduct research for military as well civilian purposes. Sudan’s first-ever satellite to carry out research in military, economic and space technology has been launched by China, the African country’s governing council said. General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, head of Sudan’s sovereign council, announced on Tuesday the launch of the satellite at a meeting of his top security officials held in the capital, Khartoum.

Four students killed in El-Obeid ‘massacre’: Sudan opposition

At least five protesters, including four high school students, have been shot dead after security forces broke up a student protest in the Sudanese city of El-Obeid, opposition groups have said. The killings on Monday came a day before protest leaders and ruling generals are set to hold new talks on Sudan’s transition following the removal of former leader, Omar al-Bashir.

Sudan’s ruling generals, protest leaders sign power-sharing deal

Sudan’s ruling generals and an alliance of opposition groups signed an accord on Wednesday creating a transitional power-sharing body after weeks of negotiations and deadly protests. The deal is aimed at breaking the political deadlock that has gripped the country since the toppling of President Omar al-Bashir in April. The two sides signed the document after intense overnight talks in the capital, Khartoum, over the details of an agreement reached earlier this month to establish a joint military-civilian sovereign council that will rule the country by rotation.
