It is expected that the average temperature will increase between 1 and 4 ºC at the end of the century, depending on the scenario adopted. Projections also indicate that rainfall patterns will change, significantly interfering with the continent’s water resources. Therefore, it is necessary to understand how water resources will be affected and the extent of the impact. Therefore, a study was prepared that exposes the impact of climate change, seeking to portray the uncertainties related to the projections.

SACCI (South American Climate Change Impacts on water resources dataset)

The product available is the result of studying the effect of climate change on water resources in South America, highlighting average flow data. The forced MGB hydrological model was used with data from 25 Global Climate Models (GCM) related to CMIP5 to compare the flows generated in the reference period (1986-2005) with the flows from a future period (2081-2100) considering two scenarios of GHG emissions: RCP4.5 and RCP8.5. Due to both the temporal and spatial scale of the climatological models, the information provided refers to variations in the flow averages of the studied period, so we will not deal with the frequency and intensity of specific events.

The study is still ongoing and this product contains preliminary results.
