Systemic approach of psychotherapy

Therapeutic profile and style, working and systemic alliance and its impact on the change process

About the project

The development of systemic approach psychotherapy occurred in several areas, associated with the treatment of couples and families. However, it also proves to be suitable to treat individuals. It is known that the relational framing of problems considers multiple individual and contextual factors of the client and the psychotherapist, in addition to the therapeutic relationship. As regards this, the objective of the present study will be to characterize the sociodemographic and professional profile, the systemic competence, and the therapeutic style of systemic psychotherapists, as well as to know how their personal experiences influence the construction of their professional identity and therapeutic style, evaluating whether there is a relationship and to what extent the professional profile, the therapist’s style, and competencies, the client’s initial emotional state, the working alliance, and the systemic alliance impact the psychological well-being and interactional functioning of individuals in individual, couple and family systemic therapy. This is a relevant topic in the Brazilian context, which lacks studies that seek to outline a profile of the professional who works in the area, contributing to reflections on their training. There is also a need for national studies on the variables that influence the process of systemic psychotherapy to understand common and specific factors underlying therapeutic change, with a view to qualifying clinical practice.
