Fraternity Campaign 2020
The National Conference of Bishops of Brazil (CNBB) launched the 2020 fraternity campaign, with the theme "Fraternity and Life: gift and commitment". Last year, the focus was on public policies. At the launch, the secretary general of the National Conference of Bishops of Brazil (CNBB), Dom Joel Portella Amado, explained that the main objective is "to protect life". Citing numbers of violence in the country, he highlighted "care among people" as the main action.
According to the basic text of the campaign, the objective is "to raise awareness, in the light of the word of God, of the meaning of life as a gift and commitment". Already with the motto "He saw, felt compassion and cared for him" – extracted from a biblical verse – the campaign wants to encourage "relationships of mutual care between people, in the family, in the community, in society and in the planet". >
Sister Dulce, canonized on October 13 of last year, she is honored in the 2020 Fraternity Campaign of the National Conference of Bishops of Brazil (CNBB). She is the first woman born in Brazil to become a saint.
In addition to the general objective, the 2020 fraternity campaign has the following specific objectives:
- To present the meaning of life proposed by Jesus in the Gospels;
- To propose compassion, tenderness and care as fundamental demands of life for more humane social relations;
- Strengthen the culture of encounter, fraternity and the care revolution as ways to overcome indifference and violence;
- Promote and defend life, from fertilization to its natural end, towards fullness;
- Awakening families to the beauty of love that continually generates new life;
- To prepare Christians and communities to announce, with witness and actions of mutual care, the full life of the Kingdom of God;
- Create spaces in communities so that, through Baptism, Confirmation and the Eucharist, everyone perceives, in fraternity, life as a Gift and Commitment;
- Awaken young people to the gift and beauty of life, motivating them to engage in actions of mutual care, especially for other young people in situations of suffering and hopelessness;
- Value, publicize and strengthen the numerous existing initiatives in favor of life;
- Caring for the planet, our Common Home, committing to integral ecology.
