“Civil Defense Alert”
On August 7, the Federal Government launched the pilot project of the new National Civil Defense alert system, “Defesa Civil Alerta”. The new technology uses the cell phone network to issue alerts, with sound and vibrating warnings, which stand out from any other content in use on the user's screen, including on cell phones in silent mode.
The technology is unprecedented in Brazil and was developed jointly by the Ministries of Communications (MCom) and Integration and Regional Development (MIDR) and in partnership with the National Telecommunications Agency (Anatel) and four major telephone operators.
