National D -Day
The initiative marks the resumption of national day for vaccination in the country. "Brazil will again make major national mobilizations for vaccination, which is our main ally to save lives. D -Day is a great opportunity to expand our coverage and protect the most vulnerable and avoid complications that overload the SUS," said Health Minister Alexandre Padilha. “In the case of flu, immunization can reduce by 60% serious cases and deaths,” he explains.
To reinforce vaccination coverage, the Ministry of Health distributed more than 51.3 million doses of flu vaccine to states and the Federal District. Immunization is free and is available at the Basic Health Units (UBS) across the country and vaccination points that will be assembled in the cities. The D -Day strategy was agreed between the federal government and state and municipal health secretariats as a way to intensify vaccination and reach the campaign goal.
The expectation of the campaign, which began on April 7, is to vaccinate more than 32 million elderly, 15 million children and 1.6 million pregnant women, as well as millions of people with comorbidities, health professionals, teachers, indigenous peoples, homeless population, among others.
