International Women's Day 2025

March 8, 2025: “For all women and girls: rights. Equality. Empowerment.”

This theme represents a call to actions that can broaden equal rights, power and opportunities for all, and a feminist future where none are left behind. Next generation empowerment is central to this idea - youth, especially young women and girls, will be protagonist of lasting changes.

The year 2025 is a crucial moment in the overall search for gender equality and women's empowerment, as it marks the 30th anniversary of Beijing's Declaration and Action Platform. Adopted by 189 governments at the end of the 4th World Conference on Women, held in 1995 in the city of Beijing, the document remains the most progressive instrument for promoting women and girls worldwide, with broad support. The platform guides policies, programs and investments that impact critical areas of our lives, such as education, health, peace, media, political participation, economic empowerment and elimination of violence against women and girls. It is urgent to publicly address these issues, along with emerging priorities related to climate justice and the power of digital technologies, since only five years left to achieve the sustainable development objectives.

The 30th anniversary of Beijing's Declaration and Action Platform also comes amid growing insecurity and accumulated crises, which is reducing confidence in democracy and shrinking civic space. Last year alone, 612 million women and girls lived amid the brutal reality of armed conflicts, which increased flagrant 50% in just a decade.
