#RefugeesHaveTheRightToChildhood

The #RefugeesHaveTheRighttoChildhood campaign of the United Nations (UN) aims to draw attention to the vulnerability of children forced to leave their countries. The initiative organized by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) aims to mobilize users of social networks around the issue and raise funds through donations.

According to the UNHCR, forced displacement is a traumatic experience for adults and, above all, for children. "Children are particularly affected during displacement crises, especially if displacement drags on for many years. New UNHCR estimates show that nearly a million children were born as refugees between 2018 and 2020. Many of them are at risk of remaining in exile years to come, some potentially for the rest of their lives," says the organization's report.

The UNHCR was created in 1950 by the UN to ensure and protect the rights of people in refugee situations around the world, being responsible for articulating a network of social organizations and third sector entities. Between March 2019 and March 2020, the institution analyzed 40 countries and identified that the gross enrollment rate of refugees in primary school was 68%, while for young people at secondary level it was only 34%.
