The Graduate Program in Education (PPGEdu) is linked to the School of Education of the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS), school which also brings together the Course of Teaching Credential in Pedagogy and the pedagogical training of other Courses of Teaching Credential of the University. PPGEdu integrates the Graduate system of UFRGS, consisting of 84 Programs evaluated and recognized by the National Graduate System, distributed in 80 Doctorate Degree Programs, 84 Master’s Degree Programs, and 15 Specialization Programs. PPGEdu/UFRGS, in its four decades of existence, articulates its formative proposal from social, scientific, and academic demands of the area. The research lines and projects, the disciplines, theses, dissertations, and bibliographical and technical production of its faculty and students express the political and social insertion of the advances and impasses of Brazilian Education, especially Primary Education, in line with the historical goals of the Program. Started in 1972 as a Master’s Degree Program in Education, it was accredited in 1974 by Opinion 657/74 and reaccredited by Opinions 534/81 and 645/90 of the Federal Council of Education. In 1976, the Doctorate Degree Program in Humanities – Education was created, accredited by Opinion 181/82 and reaccredited by Opinion 645/90 of the Federal Council of Education. The PPGEdu/UFRGS, which aims to train qualified professionals to exercise the activities of Teaching, Research, and Development for knowledge production in the field of Education, so far granted 1,668 master’s degrees and 809 doctorate degrees.
