The Graduate Program in Music at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS) is a hub for generating music knowledge through Music Research and Practice, attuned to the principle of educating professionals capable of generating scientific and artistic knowledge, empowering them for working in Brazil’s musical and scholarly community.
With a setting of its own, born out of the characteristics of the faculty’s postgraduate training in different areas of musical knowledge, the Program has achieved continued recognition for its excellence. Accordingly, the Program has been rated by CAPES (Brazil’s government agency in charge of promoting high-standards for post-graduate courses) for years 1996-1997, 1998-2000, 2001-2003, and 2004-2006 as a Level-6 Graduate Program, the highest ranking for music graduate programs in the country. For years 2007-2009, the Program was rated as a Level-7 Graduate Program, the highest ranking among all programs in Arts/Music in Brazil.
