Alexandre Silva de Quevedo
PhD in Dental Sciences (USP)
He is an assistant professor in the Department of Surgery and Orthopedics at the Faculty of Dentistry/UFRGS. Graduated in Dentistry from the Federal University of Pernambuco (UFPE), he completed a fellowship in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and Traumatology (UFPE), residency in Orofacial Pain at the University of Kentucky (USA), and PhD in Neurosciences from Wake Forest University (WFU - USA). He completed postdoctoral studies at WFU in association with Aalborg University (Denmark) and he held a second postdoctoral position in the Department of Physiology at UFRGS. He is the faculty member responsible for the course on Neurophysiology of Pain in Animal Models in the Neuroscience Graduate Program/UFRGS. He coordinates research in pain physiology and its modulation by transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) in rats. Various behavioral tests are used to assess nociception/pain, anxiety, depression, among other parameters in rodents. With the aim of systematizing the study of pain in animals and improving treatment using tDCS, the laboratory is working on projects with Prof. John Neubert (University of Florida) using the Orofacial Pain Assessment Device (OPAD) which allows real-time assessment of the animal's pain "perception" during brain stimulation.
