The Postgraduate Course in Medicine – Pulmonology of the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul was organized in 1971, with its authorized operation by decision of the Special Chamber of Postgraduate and Research of UFRGS on December 29, 1971 (Resolution 004 \/ 72) and was recognized as a Center of Excellence for Postgraduate Training in Pulmonology by the National Council of Scientific Development and accredited by the Federal Council of Education, through Opinion No. 1036\/74. The course was subject to renewal of its accreditation, at Masters level, on 10\/10\/87 through opinion 790\/87 of C.F.E.<\/span><\/p>

In 1988, with the encouragement of CAPES, the Coordinating Committee decided to structure the Doctoral Program. This was authorized by the Special Chamber of Postgraduate and Research of UFRGS on August 2, 1988, and was recommended by the Advisory Technical Group of CAPES (GTC) on March 8, 1989. On May 7, 1992, by the Federal Education Council number 000317\/92.<\/span><\/p>

Due to the demand and the need to train new researchers in non-medical health areas, at the end of 2004, it was suggested by CAPES that the Program should also include non-medical professionals, starting in March 2005, a Postgraduate Program in Pneumological Sciences, with the entry of the first graduated students in the area of Physical Therapy.<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Objectives and Scope<\/h3>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

The Program has the objective of training qualified personnel to carry out teaching, research and technological development activities in respiratory research and their dissemination. The Program comprises the Masters and Doctoral Programs, independent and conclusive, not constituting the Master’s degree necessarily prerequisite for the Doctorate. However, the performance of the previous Master’s candidate should be taken into account when joining the PhD.<\/span><\/p>

The aim of the Master’s Course is to train professionals with solid knowledge in respiratory research, suitable for teaching positions and to integrate scientific and technological research teams.<\/span><\/p>

The aim of the Doctorate Course is to train professionals who, in addition to training in respiratory research, have more extensive scientific knowledge and specific training in their research line, being able to develop original research, independently and with leadership capacity scientific basis.<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t
