Portuguese Intensive Course
Who Should Apply?
The course is for anyone interested in learning Portuguese! All international students are welcomed and encouraged to apply.
Students will be allocated according to their Portuguese level.
PORTUGUESE INTENSIVE COURSE
26 – 30 August 2019
The Portuguese Intensive Course is offered for participants of the Winter School on the Global South who want to learn Portuguese, as well as for those who want to improve their Portuguese level.
Classes will combine general language skills with texts on the Global South written in Portuguese.
Participants enrolled in the Portuguese Intensive Course are welcomed to attend classes as listeners at both the Graduate Programme in Economics (PPGE) and the Graduate Programme in International Strategic Studies (PPGEEI).
The course will take place the week before the Winter School on the Global South, from 26-30 August 2019. Classes will happen in the morning and afternoon (six hours per day).
The Portuguese Intensive Course will be led by the Language Department at UFRGS. Classes will happen in the Faculty of Economics, in the same building of the Winter School on the Global South.
We strongly encourage international participants to join the Brazilian Friend Accommodation Programme whereby a UFRGS student can be your host. If you are interested, please refer to Practical Info for more information.
When applying for the Winter School on the Global South, please indicate that you would like to join the Portuguese Intensive Course.
The Portuguese Intensive Course will be open to all successful applicants of the Winter School on the Global South.
Unfortunately, it will not be possible to apply only for the Portuguese Intensive Course.
Participants will receive a certificate for completing the Portuguese Intensive Course, equivalent to 2 credits in the Brazilian system (30 hours).
The course fee for the Portuguese Intensive Course is BRL 1,800 (approximately USD 500 by the current exchange rate).
A minimum of 3 students is needed. In case there are less than 3 students, the course fee will be reviewed.
The fee includes lunch and coffee breaks. Travel and accommodation are not included in the fee and need to be arranged by participants.
