Description:
The project “Impact of climate change on river and lake environments of Rio Grande do Sul” is funded by MCTI Call / CNPq / CT-AGRO / CT-HEALTH / CT-HYDRO No 37/2013.
The project is coordinated by Professor David Marques da Motta, head of the Research Group in Limnology and Ecotechnology at IPH. And the project has the participation of members of HGE group.
The main objectives of the project include: (i) To assess the impact of climate change in the flows of tributaries to the coastal lagoon complex of Rio Grande do Sul (RS); (ii) evaluate the impact of climate change on lake systems as coastal lagoons of great extension itself; and (iii) to investigate mitigating measures of climate changes ant its impacts on this environment.

Preliminary and Expected Results :
It is planned, as the methodology proposed in the research project, to be set up a MGB-IPH model for the entire watershed of the coastal lagoon complex of Rio Grande do Sul (RS) state. The model will be capable to simulate the entire watershed contributing to the lakes that composes the coast of RS, including Mangueira Lagoon, the Mirim Lagoon, Bathed of Taim, Lake Guaiba, and Patos Lagoon. In Figure 1 the basin to be simulated is displayed.
From the fitted model were performed several experiments for the basin. Including the simulation of climate change.
