Spatial Data Assimilation

Assimilation of Spatial Monitoring Data for the analysis of the hydrological regime of the Amazon Basin and the forecast of short and medium term
Description: This research project, together with the IRD of France, explores methods and data that can be used to improve flow and flood forecasts in large-scale basins with large data deficits, such as the Amazon basin. Among the methods being explored are the Kalman Filter by Ensemble (Kalman Filter). Among the types of data being used are satellite altimetry data, which allow estimating the water level in rivers, lakes and reservoirs from space.
