This project aims at developing and enhancing mathematical models in order to simulate

real systems such as water basins, rivers and reservoirs.
The project is coordinated by Dr. Walter Collischonn, and includes the following researchers: Diogo Costa Buarque; Rodrigo Cauduro Dias de Paiva; Fernando Mainardi Fan; Paulo Rógenes Monteiro Pontes; Mino Viana Sorribas; Margarita Pereira; Karena Quiroz; Vinicius Alencar Siqueira; Juan Martin Bravo; Katiucia Pinto; Rafael Kayser
The main results from this research are related to the development and enhancement of the Hydrologic model MGB-IPH. This model is designed to be a practical tool for analysing the hydrology of large river basins considering the typical availability of data that exists in Brazil. The model has now been applied to the majority of the Brazilian territory, including river basins like the Paraguay, the Paraná, the São Francisco, the Tocantins and the whole Amazon.
The MGB-IPH model is continuously being enhanced by improving its description of the hydrological processes, such as the flow routing, floodplain inundation, evapotranspiration processes, etc.
We also try to continuously improve the usability of the model, and we recently integrated the model with the MapWindow GIS software.
All the information related to the model, such as publications, download and manual can be found at the section MGB-IPH (in portuguese) on this page.
