Special Grants Apply

The Postgraduate Student Agreement Program (PEC-PG) provides scholarships to nationals of developing countries that have a cultural and/or educational cooperation agreement with Brazil. The scholarships are intended for training in strictu sensu postgraduate courses (Master’s and Doctorate) at Brazilian Higher Education Institutions (HEIs).

Recipients of the scholarship receive the following benefits:

  • Vacancies in Brazilian HEIs recommended by Capes, with no enrollment costs;
  • Monthly scholarship in the same amount offered to Brazilian students, namely: R$1500.00 for a Master's degree, with a maximum duration of 24 months, and R$2200.00 for a Doctorate, with a maximum duration of 48 months; and
  • A return air ticket to the foreign student's country.

To be eligible for a scholarship under the PEC-PG Program, applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • Be a citizen of a developing country that has a Cultural, Educational or Science and Technology Cooperation Agreement or Memorandum of Understanding with Brazil. Check the list of participating countries in the PEC-PG Program;
  • Not hold Brazilian citizenship, even if dual citizenship, and not have a Brazilian parent;
  • Not hold a permanent visa, diplomatic visa, MERCOSUR visa, or any visa that authorizes remunerated activities in Brazil;
  • Have proficiency in the Portuguese language, both written and spoken, according to the requirements of the selected institution;
  • Submit all required documentation within the established deadlines;
  • Meet any other specific requirements established by the selected institution or by the Brazilian government;
  • Hold the Certificate of Proficiency in Portuguese Language (CELPE-Bras), even for those from Portuguese-speaking countries. Learn more about CELPE-Bras;
  • Stay in their home country for at least two years after obtaining a Brazilian diploma, in the case of former students who graduated from the Student Program-Graduation Agreement (PEC-G).
