International Collaboration

The Graduate Program in Mechanical Engineering (PROMEC) has an outstanding international reach, promoting many opportunities for interaction between Brazilian and foreign researchers.

PROMEC is an attractive center for professionals in Latin America and frequently welcome students from other regions. For this reason, courses are regularly offered in English and Spanish. In addition, renowned foreign researchers are invited to teach elective courses in the program. Invited researchers also offer lectures, seminars and participate as members of the jury during the final presentation of graduate students.

The Graduate Program offers an international and interinstitutional master’s and doctoral program (Minter and Dinter). In this modality, courses are offered in the foreign partner institution. Supervision and guidance can be conducted through periodic videoconferences. In-person guidance can be facilitated during professors’ visits to the partner university and foreign students’ work assignments at PROMEC headquarters.

PROMEC is part of the UFRGS Internationalization Program (PRINT), which supports various initiatives related to international mobility. Every year, scholarships are offered for doctoral candidates to perform research internships abroad. This allows candidates to acquire professional experiences in a foreign institution. The program also supports student participation in international congresses and short-term missions in other countries. Such initiatives encourage collaborative work and the creation of new international partnerships. Former graduates of the program choose to pursue their research studies at renowned institutions abroad as researchers.

The PROMEC faculty have recognized international performance which can be perceived through the participation of many worldwide activities. Our researchers are deeply attached to scientific communication worldwide, oftenly participating  in the organization of international scientific congress, which may involve the participation of grad students in the activities. Also, our researchers work with renowned academic journals as editors and peer-reviewers and participate in the dissemination of scientific knowledge through international seminars and lectures.

The school, through its Faculty, has established partnerships with international research centers in which grad students can be involved, performing collaborative research works.
