Encoding genes to increase or nutritional value of legumes

Technology background
The soybean, beans and other legumes have, normally, low levels of methionine in this protein assembly in its seeds. In addition to the low levels of the essential amino acid, protease inhibitors considered anti-nutritional factors for human and animal consumption are also present. It is society interest the development of soybean varieties, grains or legumes with nutritional gains and resolution of anti-nutritional problems.

Technology description
The invention consists in a set of sequences encoding recombinant proteins – proteins produced artificially from cloned gene – resulting in enrichment of methionine residues in relation to its content in the original protein, replacing residues of other amino acids present in the original polypeptide chain, inserted into a recombinant gene. The new gene must be inserted into the genome of crops by genetic transformation methods.

Problem Fixed
The invention consists in increasing low levels of methionine, essential amino acid present in the soybean and legumes, and reduce problems caused by protease inhibitors.

Advantages
– Higher nutritional value for legume seeds and soy proteins;
– Waiver later addition of methionine for nutritional deficiency correction;
– Lower power consumption for industrial process.

Applications
– Pharmaceutical industry ;
– Agribusiness.
