Production of improved nanostructures for gene therapy

Technology background

Defects or chromosomal abnormalities are involved in the origin of various diseases, hereditary or non, which conventional medicine is limited to treating , using therapies to alleviate the symptoms. Recently, gene therapy arose, which consists in the insertion of a functional gene in order to correct a dysfunction or promoting new cell functions. However, despite promising, gene therapy faces several limitations relating to the penetration capability and intracellular stability of the nucleic acid used to reach the cell nucleus and edit the genome. In order to overcome these difficulties, some strategies have been used.

Technology description

The technology describes the production by high pressure homogenization of five different nanocarriers to be complexed with at least one nucleic acid made from biocompatible biomaterials, biodegradable and bioabsorbable.

Advantages

– Nanocarriers more secure and stable;

– Production scheduling possibility for the industry;

– Easier penetration into the cell membrane.

Applications

– Greater efficiency in platforms used for genome editing in gene therapy;

– Pharmaceutical / medical industry.
