Technology background
The risers rigid pipes are usually made of steel, formed by segments of tubes joined by top circumferential welds. Although oil and gas exploration and distribution pipelines have an excellent safety record, they are subject to various types of damage during their field operation. These defects may involve loss of wall thickness due to corrosion, cracks, risks and kneading.
The risers are composed of interlayers of different materials, such as steel and polyethylene, where each layer has a specific function, and can be described as: hull
, sealing layer, pressure armor, traction armature and outer layer. Due to the complexity of the flexible ducts and the installation and operation, they are susceptible to a number of failure modes. The most reported mechanisms of damage or failure are related to damage to the polymeric outer layer, which leads to the exposure of their metallic armatures to the external medium. The tensile armature that has structural function is fabricated from steels of high mechanical resistance, however, low corrosion resistance in sea water.
Pipelines are routinely used to transport materials, such as fluids and particularly hydrocarbons, including liquids and gases over long distances. This can be between an offshore installation, such as a well and an offshore processing plant.

Technology description
The present invention relates to a bipartite device (clamp) and method for application of resin or mixtures containing anticorrosive products for repair of structures of the flexible ducts type ( risers) and / or to act in the monitoring of rigid ducts ( risers). The device allows the coupling of monitoring systems to rigid ducts, and in this case, the sensors, cables and electronics constituting the system are pre-inserted into the device which acts as a protective casing.
A ferramenta bipartida e o dispositivo são destinados ao reparo da camada externa de dutos flexíveis ou proteção de sistemas de monitoramento em dutos rígidos. The technology can be diver-coupled or adapted in a remotely operated underwater vehicle (ROVs), and allows the automatic application of a bipartite device that serves as a container for injection of pure resin or mixtures containing anticorrosive products for the protection of the armors and the control of corrosive processes in progress, in the case of repair of flexible ducts. The tool also allows the coupling of monitoring systems to rigid ducts.

Problem Fixed
The device with the aid of the tool can restore the tightness of damaged external risers flexible;, guaranteeing the protection of the reinforcement against corrosion (loss of thickness of structural elements), fatigue (crack propagation) and corrosion-fatigue (propagation of cracks with corrosive media), and to protect the monitoring system in order to monitor thickness losses in risers rigid.
Advantages
- It allows sealing in the damaged area of the outer polymer layer in risers flexible;;
- Protects the monitoring system on rigid risers;
- Ensures the application automatically in marine environments of a bipartite device in the repair of the external layer of risers flexible;, or couple monitoring systems in risers rigid.
Applications
- Areas of submarine emissaries;
- Pipelines;
- Gas Pipelines;
- Conductors;
- Oil platforms;
- Storage Tanks;
- And in marine environments.
