optical sensor fuel marking

Technology background
To detect adulteration in petrol, ANP conducts several studies physicochemical, including relative density, distillation, As octane (MON – motor octane number, e £ - research octane number), flash point, and others, and yet, many samples have approved tamper. The main contaminants found in gasoline are common organic solvents in general, kerosene, thinner, etc,. anhydrous ethanol and added in different amounts recommended by the legislation.

Technology description
The technology uses organic dyes for commercial gasoline marking serving as a sensor for the traceability and control of fuel adulteration. The chemical properties of such compounds permit small variations in polarity of the medium, It has been successfully used to detect different concentrations of anhydrous ethanol in common automotive gasoline.

Problem Fixed
Allowing traceability and consequently the adulteration of fuel control, due to the evidence of the absence or alteration of tracer concentration in the same, regardless of the type of substance that is being used to conduct this falsification. Furthermore, its chemical characteristics allow even small variations in polarity of the medium, It has been successfully used to detect different concentrations, those accepted by law, of anhydrous ethanol in common automotive gasoline.

Advantages
– Traceability of the marked fuel, enabling the use of fluorescent tracer concentration inside required by legislation;
– security marking for detecting front petrol adulteration to any agent that alters the concentration of the tracer;
– tampering detection common automotive gasoline by using different concentration of ethanol required by law;
– simple and straightforward technique for tamper detection via absorption spectroscopy in the UV-Vis region and fluorescence emission.

Applications
Marking, tracking and detection of tampering common automotive gasoline by adding various solvents anhydrous ethanol or outside the required concentration in legislation.
