Technology background
Fungal infections have been gaining attention over the years, mainly due to the increased severity and cases of resistant pathogens, particularly in immunocompromised patients. Systemic mycoses depend on correct diagnosis in a timely manner and even with the availability of appropriate therapies they have high mortality rates.
Despite efforts to develop antifungal agents, available therapies do not fully meet clinical needs, having important limitations in terms of selectivity, action spectrum, power and route of administration.
In this sense, piperazine derivatives propanol has been described in the scientific literature as a GS inhibitor, presenting a promising antifungal activity profile.
Technology description
Pharmaceutical combination of the antifungal compound derived from piperazine propanol with other agents for the treatment and prevention of infections caused by one or more of the various pathogens, such as Candida species, Aspergillus, Fusarium, Trichophyton e Microsporum.
Problem Fixed
The compound is active against species of Candida resistant to azole derivatives and their use in combination overcomes the limitations of other antifungal agents and combinations.
It was reduced from 4-16 times the minimum concentration required, of each compound, to inhibit the growth of fungal cells.
Applications
The invention is in the field of treating and preventing infections with the use of combinations of agents, more specifically with regard to combinations of antifungals to treat infections caused by fungi.
Advantages
– Maintains or improves therapeutic efficacy with lower doses of agents, when compared to unique therapies, reducing adverse effects (critical for patients in critical states who are often stricken with opportunistic fungal infections).
– Low cost of obtaining the piperazine derivative propanol.
