Prezados,
Palestrante: Profa. Dra. Catherine Annen
Título da Palestra: “THE MODEL OF DEEP CRUSTAL HOT ZONES AND THE GENERATION OF MELT DIVERSITY: INSIGHTS FROM NUMERICAL SIMULATIONS”
Abstract: Mafic magma differentiation in large shallow magma chambers used to be a popular model to explain the generation of silicic melts. An alternative model is the partial melting of crustal rocks heated by injections of basalt. Numerical simulations show that both models encounter issues of heat and mass balance. The most efficient way to generate silicic melts is in the deep crust by differentiation of juvenile mafic magma. The amount of concomitant crustal melting strongly depends on the crust fertility and on the contact area between mafic magmas and crustal protoliths. Deep crustal hot zones are favorable environment for the production of melt diversity and for the emergence of bimodalism.
