This week’s presentation features Professor Marlon Dalmoro, Adjunct Professor at the UFRGS School of Management and Visiting Professor at the Nova Information Management School at the New University of Lisbon. In his research, he examines how social and cultural dynamics operate in the construction of markets and consumption practices. The presentation is entitled “Market dynamics: research trajectories and opportunities from a interpretative perspective“, and can be followed on April 18, from 9am to 10am, in hybrid form, in EA Room 204 or via Zoom. Join us! Below is a brief description of the seminar:
Understanding market dynamics is central to marketing and consumer studies. Recent studies have adopted perspectives from Consumer Culture Theory and Economic Sociology to describe markets as a social and material arrangement, constantly reshaped by practices developed by multiple agents and capable of organizing representations, norms and the format of economic exchanges. In this presentation, we will go through the different theoretical perspectives of the field of marketing knowledge concerned with understanding markets. In building a trajectory of studies on market dynamics, we will highlight nuances about the role and implications of multiple actors in the construction of these dynamics. Applications of theories to understanding food markets will also be detailed. Finally, the presentation will discuss possibilities for using the theoretical lenses of market studies in interpretative Marketing & Consumer research.
