It is with great sadness that on January 7th we said goodbye to Ieda Del’Arco Sanches, a researcher at the National Institute for Space Research (INPE). Her dedication in the field of remote sensing has left a legacy for science and technology in Brazil, especially through the training of graduate students in the area of agricultural remote sensing and land use and land cover change.

Ieda acted with determination. She took on leadership positions in the area of research and graduate studies at INPE. She brought together knowledge, friendliness and a willingness to integrate teams and build opportunities for fellow researchers and graduate students. She always believed in the potential of each individual.

The Graduate Program in Remote Sensing (PPGSR) and the State Research Center for Remote Sensing and Meteorology (CEPSRM) at UFRGS mourn the loss and wish strength to her family, friends and colleagues at INPE.
