A series of investigations has brought advances in the knowledge of the relationship between urban morphology and land use. Urban configurational studies constitute a theoretical-methodological approach that allows associating characteristics of the urban form with its socio-functional attributes, contributing to the identification of urban states, processes and dynamics. This research is part of the production of the research group on Urban Configurational Systems, headquartered at PROPUR-UFRGS and intends to advance in the approximation between approaches on urban form and those focused on the arrangement of land uses. Its objective is to analyze the relationship between land use and urban configuration, through performance indicators. The methodology addresses two complementary scales, global and local, with an emphasis on residential and commercial uses. The empirical study is carried out in the city of Porto Alegre, including specific sectors to be selected. Urban modeling resources based on graphs will be used and the indicators are based on the Centrality models (KRAFTA, 1996). The study intends to contribute to the advancement of knowledge about patterns of distribution of urban activities, as well as to investigate the nature and role of urban configuration in these processes.
