Cities and regions are systems in which sets of entities (social, spatial) interact with each other in a dynamic and cumulative way, which change over time. Such characteristics require representation and analysis methodologies capable of dealing with this complexity. The analysis of urban systems through spatial networks (urban graphs) has contributed to the understanding of these systems and, more recently, advances in the studies of multilayer networks have been introduced in urban analysis. This research aims to: a) describe and analyze urban systems as networks of socio-spatial interaction that occur in several layers, exploring the combination of physical, functional, economic, cultural elements, etc.; b) produce analytical procedures aimed at understanding the structure and state of social interactions relevant to the life of Brazilian cities, whose application may result in indicators of the city’s vitality and its parts. The proposed methodology is aimed at exploring multilayer networks (graphs), in order to complement the studies already produced within the scope of the CNPq Research Group on Urban Configurational Systems. The results seek to produce and improve urban performance indicators based on graph theory.
