The establishment of the Cellular Biology area at CBiot, focusing on the study of cell structure and function, has allowed us to advance our understanding of human and animal pathogens, as well as tumor and plant development. This expertise has supported direct contributions to society, such as our involvement in expanding the Petrochemical Hub of Triunfo by conducting rigorous assessments of safety and genotoxicity. In addition to service provision in this area, research such as the discovery of a new mechanism for inhibiting biofilm formation opens up perspectives for developing new control mechanisms, reducing damage to various industrial structures such as cooling and fuel pipelines, vessel propellers, optical equipment, as well as buildings and artworks such as paintings and statues.
This know-how was essential in the commercial production of Taq DNA polymerase in Brazil in the 1990s by CBiot, offering antibody production services, developing vaccines for bovine ticks, or researching the process of cell death in tumor cells, with direct implications for the development of new drugs. Lastly, to support these initiatives, CBiot established the MULTI BIOCEL LAB - CBiot Cellular Biology Multi-User Laboratory, equipped with 2 Incucytes, also serving as support for companies incubated at IECBiot.
