This week, master’s student Jessica Lima Miranda (UFRGS) will be presenting her research “The Use of Small Area Estimates to Estimate Demand” at the GPMC Group Seminar. As usual, the meeting will take place in a hybrid format, in the CEPA Room at EA and via Zoom. The discussion will occur on Thursday (October 3rd). We would be delighted to have your participation!
Now, a bit about the author’s perspective on the discussion: “In this seminar, I present a detailed analysis of the consumption behavior of electrical materials in the city of São Paulo, using the Small Area Estimation (SAE) methodology. By combining data from the Household Budget Survey (POF) and other complementary sources, such as GeoSampa from the SAEDE Foundation and GDP data by neighborhood, the study maps the demand for electrical products across different social classes. We explore how socioeconomic variables, such as income and structural conditions, influence purchasing behavior. The goal is to provide accurate data for business strategies targeted at different socioeconomic groups.”
Jessica is a businesswoman and a master’s student in Marketing at UFRGS/PPGA. Focusing on market analysis and consumer behavior, she employs statistical techniques and geoprocessing in her research. Her current work investigates the market for electrical materials in São Paulo, applying the SAE methodology to identify consumption patterns and business opportunities in various socioeconomic contexts. With a background in Administration from UFRGS and a postgraduate degree in Project Management and Innovation from IFRS, Jessica has always shown interest in the intersection of consumer behavior data and business strategies. She has experience in analyzing large databases, statistical modeling, and geographical visualization, and has collaborated on marketing projects aimed at companies seeking to optimize their presence in segmented markets. Her main research interests include consumer behavior, geomarketing, spatial analysis, and strategic marketing.
