The International Office (Secretaria de Relações Internacionais – RELINTER) was established as the Institutional and International Relations Advisory (Assessoria de Relações Institucionais e Internacionais) to the Rector’s Office in 1993 and became the International Office in 2000. Even if there were international cooperation and agreements since the establishment of isolated higher education units in the Rio Grande do Sul State in the late 19^th century, it was in the late 20^th century that UFRGS’s international relations met a remarkable quantitative and qualitative increase.
