Urban Systems Research Group

The Urban Systems Research Group is based at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS), Brazil, linked to the Graduate Program in Urban and Regional Planning (PROPUR) and it’s research team includes PROPUR Faculties, Graduate and Undergraduate Students. The Group’s research focuses on the study of urban morphology, aiming to describe configurational states and processes and their relations with the corresponding social dynamics. This strand encompasses a range of research from the design and construction of simulation models and spatial dynamics, advanced spatial analysis and development of urban performance measures.

The scientific production of Urban Systems Research Group is related to urban and regional spatial analysis, with emphasis on configurational approaches. Many different academic partnerships have enabled studies such as urban spatial dynamics, spatial analysis methodologies, urban impact studies, land use patterns and location of economic activities, regional hierarchy, urban retail structure, spatial performance indicators, spatial centralities, and morphological evolution, among others.
