Standards

ASTM D256 - Standard Test Methods for Determining the Izod Pendulum Impact Resistance of Plastics

Notched samples. Flexibility in testing. This test provides a structural impact property and not a material impact property.

Measured property:
- Breaking impact energy

ASTM D4812 - Standard Test Method for Unnotched Cantilever Beam Impact Resistance of Plastics

Samples without notches. Flexibility in testing. Recommended test for reinforced materials where the notch can mask orientation effects.

ASTM D3479 - Standard Test Method for Tension-Tension Fatigue of Polymer Matrix Composite

Materials

Determines the fatigue behaviour of polymer matrix composites subjected to cyclic stress loading. The specimens are limited by composites with continuous fibre reinforcements and discontinuous fibre reinforcements, where the elastic properties are especially orthotropic with respect to the test direction. This method is also limited by specimens without notches, subjected to a planar load of constant uniaxial amplitude, with loading defined in terms of the test control parameters.

Measured property:

- Number of cycles to failure

- Load rate (procedure A) or deformation (procedure B)

EN1227:1998, 2782-12:Method 1214F:1998

The creep tests are performed in constant compression and in the direction of the laminate thickness for a period of seven days, and considering the influence of three different parameters: temperature in two levels (ambient and 80 °C), pressure in three levels (30, 40 and 50 MPa) and two roughnesses (rough and smooth).

The specimens are usually 300 mm long and 80 mm in diameter.
