Cine-Debate discusses femicide from the movie L'Amour et les Forêts

On June 12, a Cine-Debate on femicide will be held, with a screening of the French film L'Amour et Les Forêts (2023), directed by Valerie Donzelli and based on Eric Reinhardt's homonymous work. The event is free and open to the public, starting at 18h, and is part of the actions of the project “Living is a right: strategies to strengthen the women's movement”.
Selected for the 2023 Cannes Festival, the feature narrates the story of Blanche (Virginie Efira), a woman who finds herself trapped in an abusive relationship with Gregory (Melvil Poupaud) after moving away from her support network. The plot reveals the escalation of control and violence, exposing the difficulties faced by women in abuse contexts.
The debate will be attended by Maria Lúcia R. de Freitas Moritz and Télia Negrão. The choice of date, close to Valentine's Day, seeks to reinforce the message that “those who love does not kill” and that femicide is motivated by misogyny - hatred for women.
The activity is part of the preparatory program of the seminar “femicide: between negationism and misogyny”, which will take place on June 26 and 27, at the UFRGS Cultural Center.
