UFRGS Philosophy courses receive maximum grade in the evaluation of MEC

Bachelor and Degree in Philosophy courses at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS), linked to the Institute of Philosophy and Human Sciences (IFCH), received a grade 5 in the latest assessment of the Ministry of Education (MEC), a maximum concept attributed to undergraduate courses in the country.

officially created in 1943 and recognized in 1944, the Bachelor of Philosophy course has been constantly updated to accompany the transformations of university formation in Brazil. With a strong articulation with postgraduate studies, the course focuses on the formation of researchers and university professors, with a solid history of history of philosophy, conceptual and argumentative analysis, and capacity for critical reflection. Bachelor also attracts students from various areas seeking intellectual deepening and complementary training.

The undergraduate degree in philosophy, in turn, has as its main objective the formation of teachers for basic education, with emphasis on elementary (final years) and middle teachings. The presence of philosophy as a compulsory curriculum component in Brazilian high school reinforces the social importance of the degree, which forms professionals qualified to work in public and private schools, especially in Porto Alegre and the metropolitan region. The course combines pedagogical and specific training from the first semesters, in accordance with the national curriculum guidelines.

The maximum grade received recognizes the historical and current commitment of UFRGS Philosophy courses to the quality of academic education, the deepening of critical thinking and the strengthening of public education of humanities in Brazil.
