Research Project
Title: Brazil, Russia and Ukraine: spectra of fascism and communism in the semantics of "new right" in global perspective (from c. 1989 to c. 2020)
Research analyzes the overall rise of groups, parties and governments that assume reactionary discourses and practices, associated with the phenomenon of negationism. The goal is to understand how the concepts of fascism and communism have been built and resignified by the so -called “new right” in Brazil, Russia and Ukraine, between the late 1980s and the early 1920s.
The temporal clipping starts from the late 1980s, a period marked by legal transition processes and authoritarian legacy management in different countries. In recent years, however, this transitional justice agenda has been appropriated by right -wing sectors, who use it to mitigate historical bonds with fascism and, at the same time, condemn opponents classified as “communists”.
Experience Contribution
According to Lúcio Geller Junior, the doctorate sandwich will contribute to both its academic background and the internationalization of UFRGS. The stay at Universitat de València will enable access to lines of research in theory of contemporary history and history, insertion in international research networks and the strengthening of academic bonds between Brazil and Spain. Experience will also allow participation in international groups and events, expanding the dissemination of Brazilian scientific production abroad and consolidating the debate on new directs in a global perspective.
